The best views of the Estuarty are to be had from the Portuondo viewpoint, Atalaya viewpoint and also from the area of the Hermitage of St. Catherine; with the cape Ogoño and the island of Izaro standing out against this picturesque landscape.
In 1984 Urdaibai was designated a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco. Located in a haven of the Bay of Biscay, its fauna and flora make it a unique area which enjoys a mild, humid, maritime climate. Urdaibai has four particular areas of interest: its wetlands, the Bay of Biscay holm oak groves, the coastline and the Atlantic landscape.
Laidatxu, Mundaka's beautiful beach, is a protected place from the north winds and recommended for families with children. Other nice bathing spots are Txorrokopunta, the harbour and Ondartzape.
